Telephone systems where historically connected to conventional copper analogue or digital lines but are now almost exclusively connected using IP technology over either VDSL connections or preferably a fibre optic connection.

Existing telephone systems can very often be upgraded at a very reasonable cost to be compatible with IP technology, meaning existing telephones can be retained.

Once upgraded these systems are then connected to their Telco via SIP trunks often providing a substantial savings in ongoing Telco line rental and call costs The outlay for a new system or system upgrade can often be recovered in less than 12 months.
